Garden Party – Truman Capote's Black and White Celebration

Garden Party – Truman Capote's Black and White Celebration

Performer(s), Performing Company: Kulturscio'k Live Art Collective
Category: Theatre
Themes: Addiction, Crime
Show ambitions: International Touring, Presenting at an international festival, Future commissions
Further information on the ambitions for the work: This show is highly versatile and can be adapted to various contexts and venues. It is composed of two main elements: the performance itself, which includes new writing, and the original music. Ideally, we aim to present the show in its full version. In 2026, we are planning to perform in Avignon. However, since the show is in English, we also believe it has strong potential for touring in England and the United States.

A mysterious investigation of the great American writer, inspired by his scandalous life and the Black and White ball he hosted at the Plaza Hotel. A provocative journey through success, sabotage, addiction and true crime, from Garden City to New York. This adaptation, with original music, plunges the audience into a dangerous conflict where art and life are intertwined. Social hypocrisy, class power, gossip and murder are the guests of honour at a garden party worthy of Truman Capote. A new work by Kulturscio’k International Live Art Collective.

Previous Touring Experience

The company Kulturscio'k is well known in both Italy and France, and our productions have been presented in a variety of contexts, including museums, theatres, archaeological sites, and festivals.

Notes for Screen Development

We would also love to adapt this show for television, as its structure and material lend themselves well to that format.

Any other ways this work could be shared with presenting partners and audiences

The show can also be presented in various alternative formats: as a concert, a ball, or even a party. It has the potential to become an event, a celebration, or an open-air happening. Our work is inherently flexible and site-responsive, while always remaining true to the core intention of the piece—in this case, celebrating the life and work of Truman Capote.
